Giveaway! Fantastic Non-Plastic

nonplasticbottle.gifIf you’ve been reading the news for the past couple years, you probably already know that research has proven that plastics are a problem, particularly when it comes to food/drink storage and cooking. Many companies are now starting to phase out certain chemicals in their plastic products that have been proven unsafe for humans and for especially children but, at the same time, many companies are doing business as usual and that’s a problem. Since we don’t always know what’s in the plastics we use or which companies are doing right by consumers, we’re of the opinion that it’s best to just avoid them whenever possible. Fortunately, there are companies like that have amassed all kinds of great products to fill many of your non-plastic needs and we’ve partnered with them to give away to one lucky randomly selected winner a 12 oz stainless steel bottle with a sippy adapter and Avent sippy spout.

Introducing The GGP Awards!

megaphoneblue.pngI read a lot of green blogs and I’m always so impressed with how much great writing is out there so I thought it would be cool if every month we could all give an award to the writer of a post that we really liked, found inspiring, learned something from etc—you know…really GREAT green posts! And so The Great Green Post Award was born. July’s recipients can be found here.

Here’s how it works:

Got Stuff?

SawptreeOf course you do. We all do—and if you’re like me, you don’t have a clue how so much of it got into your life but you know it has to go. Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could exchange some of that stuff for stuff you actually want and never have to set foot in a store? That’s not wishful thinking, my friend. You can actually DO THAT on Swaptree! How it works is Swaptree creates trades by matching items that you have (books, music, movies and video games) with other people who want those items and vice-versa. Best of all? It’s FREE. And because there are a frillion people on Swaptree, there’s a ton of stuff available for trade which means there’s a very good chance you’ll score exactly what you want and that someone wants your stuff, too. Short of just not ever buying another book, video game, DVD or CD, SwapTree is one of the greenest options around so get busy and start writing up your wish list!

Bamboo in Mah Bed?

sheets.jpgUntil a few years ago, bamboo was, to me, something that grew like crazy in my neighbor’s backyard and occasionally turned up in my Chinese food. These days, however, bamboo is turning up in all kinds of places like flooring, clothing, towels and sheets. Yes, I said sheets. Super soft sheets, in fact, because it turns out that bamboo fibers are very silky and yet strong and durable. But bamboo isn’t just soft and silky and durable. It’s also highly sustainable and renewable, requires no pesticides to grow, is fast-drying, hypo-allergenic and has remarkable natural antibacterial and antifungal properties. I’m thinking bamboo sheets are the ones I’d want to sleep on and the ones we want you to sleep on, too, which is why we’re giving away a set of fabulous, luxurious, awesomelicious Karen Neuburger bamboo sheets to one lucky reader!
