produceWhen you’re shopping for produce, what do those numbers on the stickers mean?

The PLU “Price Look Up” code stickers on fruits and vegetables can help you identify organic, conventional and even genetically modified produce.

•  Organic produce stickers start with a 9 and have 5 numbers
• Conventional produce has 4 numbers
GM (Genetically Modified) produce have 5 numbers like organic produce but start with the number 8 so be particularly cautious of those fruits and vegetables

Choose 9 for peace of mind!

Great post! I never knew there was a way to detect GM food. I stick with Organic and Local Organic Delivery anyway, but good to know.

I am very glad I read your post - I did not know about those codes. I am always still rather appalled that stores sell GM produce - but at least better that they label it!

This is like a whole other language! I feel like I was just given a membership to a secret society. No more wondering or hoping. Now I know for sure what the products are that I am buying. Thank you.
