We have many cloth diapering enthusiasts amongst our readers so we thought it would be helpful to have you all chime in on this reader question:
Hi, I’m new to cloth diapering and have no idea where to start or what would be best. I was wondering if anyone could advise me on a good cloth diaper for an older child (almost 4) who doesn’t stay dry at night. He weighs around 37 lbs and is about 35 inches tall and wears a 6 in regular diapers, if that helps.
Thank you from a devoted reader!
Caroline

I have this EXACT same problem with my 6 year old who is 45lbs…I’ve been using Bummis trainers with inserts stuffed in. They work well and are affordable. I’ve been told that XL Fuzzi Bunz work well too, but I like the trainers because my son can pull them on/off himself which he (and I!!!) appreciate.
Have you considered the Mother-ease bedwetter pants (awful name, yes). They are poofy, but they work. So not what you want to send to a sleepover, but good for at home. If you have a store that retails Mother-ease diapers locally, great, but if you’re looking to purchase online, you can only purchase through the manufacturer, www.mother-ease.com (Canadian site).
cheers,
susie :)
My son is 3 and he wears the Starbunz trainers stuffed with Joey Bunz hemp inserts. They have side snaps so they can adjust for different fits and they pull up. My son likes them because they look like super hero underwear. They are pretty trim.
While we have not had to use anything on our older children, we have loved the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap for our youngest (18 months old). Ours are size Medium and he’s been wearing them since January and still has room to grow into them. These fit snuggly and the snap wraps are adustable so you can double up the diaper at night. It comes in an X-large (40+ pounds) at http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/covers.htm It is the first cover listed, but if you decide to order be sure to use the middle order bar for the snap wrap - they only come in white though :-(, as the other ones are velcro but the prints are oh so cute! We found velcro wears out faster and gets full of lint too easily.
Just my humble opinion,

I’ve considered cloth night time diapers for my preschooler but it’s so confusing. I have no idea where to start.
Try Antsy Pants. They’re a cloth diaper and also a trainer pant for older toddlers. I haven’t tried them yet (I currently use BumGenius and gDiapers), but I stumbled on their website a few days ago and I may try them when my son begins potty training.
